Nobody said it was going to be easy!!!!

I was at home for the weekend and I recruited about 10 people in the pub on Saturday night. They might not remember now but they will when they get the sponsorship card in the post. Mwahahaha.

As part of the recruitment I have decided that if people are struggling on the day that there will be an alternative 60km (40 mile) route. May sound like a cop out but I did drive most of the route this weekend and it is bloody tough, even seasoned cyclists said it is tough but I am determined to do the 90km and I think the majority of others are too. As they say "Nobody said it was going to be easy".

I must say though that the difference in peoples attitudes to it is funny. Some people are training well, while others are like "ah feck sure im sure il be able to do it on the day". Neill had a right good one. I asked him why he hadn't done the route and if he was going to do it before the day. He replied its bad enough I'll have to do it the once. Fair enough.

While others like Burkey and Cobhan are well able to talk up a good game. Burkey reckons he would win it only for Tony Griffin is taking part. While Cobhan said "Its an impressive line up but im definitely better at shootin my mouth off than any of those chiefs". Cant wait to see him walk his bike up that hill beside the Cliffs only made worse by the fact its his hometown!!

Some interesting bike choices are being made, some are going for the all out racers, others like me the hybrid, some lunatics are on mountain bikes and others are looking at tandem bikes, im sure there will be a high nelly too.

If people still dont have a bike please contact me or Neill because we will have an account in a shop in Ennis and Limerick where you can rent one for the weekend at a good rate.

Before I go we have got great coverage in the media. Some of us will be on the Clare People next week, one of the Clare lads will be on Spin SW on Sunday the 4th and on Friday the 9th a group of us will be on Ireland AM on TV3 at 9.30am so keep a look out. We need bodies for the TV3 one so if you have a face for the radio please do not contact me!!

Keep up the good work and keep recruitment and the fundraising going.

NB: Helmets have to be wore on the day and if people want insurance you have to sort it out yourself!

I will post again before the event.

News

Right this updating business is tough going so here are some bullet points;

Got the permit from the Gardai.
Daragh Clancy got some Clare hurlers involved Gerry O'Grady, BOC, Tony Griffin, Brendan Buglar, Pa Donnelan.
Did that 40 mile cyclein London, it was actaully handy enough really but it was a pretty flat route.
I sent out some info to news sites eg: http://www.hoganstand.com/Clare/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=117819

Should be on the Clare People and Clare Champion this week too so keep an eye out for it.

Has anyone done the route yet? Shane was saying that some hills are tough.

Here is a good site for technique

I am home this weekend if anyone wants to ask me any questions about it.

For those of you who will be coming a long distance to take part I will send on some B&B info for ye soon.

Let me know if you have no sponsorship cards too.
